Restaurant Buyouts in San Diego: Full & Partial Venue Rentals

Corporate group seated at long tables during a full restaurant buyout in San Diego

Your Group, Your Menu, the Whole Room

A restaurant buyout in San Diego gives your group something a reservation never can: control. No other diners, no shared service staff, no compromise on the menu, the music or the room layout. It's the format companies choose for client appreciation nights, holiday parties and launch dinners.

We find the right venue, negotiate the terms and plan the evening from first call to last course. You tell us the headcount, the date and the budget. Within 24 hours you get a proposal with real options from more than 100 San Diego venues, including two we own and book exclusively.

Our planning costs you nothing. The venues pay us, not you. You pay only for the event itself, typically the food and beverage minimum plus any rentals or entertainment, and every cost is spelled out in your proposal before you sign. Because we negotiate on your behalf, groups often get better terms than they would booking direct.

Full vs. Partial Restaurant Buyouts

A full buyout closes the restaurant to the public for your event. Every table, the bar and the staff are yours for the agreed hours. It's the right call when you want total privacy, a branded environment, a program with speeches or awards, or a guest count that would overwhelm a private room.

A partial buyout reserves a defined section, such as a mezzanine, a patio or a lower dining level, while the rest of the restaurant stays open. You get exclusivity within your space and a more energetic backdrop, often with a lower minimum than taking the whole venue.

Which one fits depends on headcount, how much privacy the evening needs and how much of the budget you want going to the room versus the menu. When the numbers are close, we show you both side by side. If a full buyout feels like more than you need, our private dining rooms page covers enclosed and semi-private room options for smaller groups.

How Restaurant Buyouts in San Diego Are Priced

Most San Diego restaurants price a buyout as a food and beverage minimum rather than a flat rental fee. The minimum is the amount your group commits to spending on food and drink during the event. If your menu and bar meet or exceed it, you simply pay for what you order. If the total falls short, the venue typically bills the difference.

Minimums vary with the venue, day of week, season and hours, so we never quote a number before we know your date. Your proposal shows the actual minimum for each option.

A few questions we always settle before you sign:

  • Do tax and service charge count toward the minimum, or sit on top of it?
  • How many hours of exclusive use are included, and what does extra time cost?
  • Are AV, furniture changes or outside entertainment allowed and priced separately?
  • What deposit holds the date, and what is the cancellation policy?

We negotiate those details for you, at no cost.

Exclusive Buyouts at Greystone and Kaluu

We own two Gaslamp Quarter venues that are available for exclusive buyouts and bookable only through us.

Greystone has a supper-club feel built for corporate dinners, galas and milestone celebrations. A full buyout accommodates up to 250 guests for a cocktail reception, plated dinner or live entertainment, with custom signage and photography available. Smaller groups can take the mezzanine (up to 65) or the semi-private lower dining room (up to 55) as a partial buyout.

Kaluu is relaxed and full of character, with chef-driven modern Mexican cuisine, wood-fired meats and fresh seafood. A buyout seats up to 120 guests for seated dinners, buffets or cocktail receptions, with AV capabilities and a dedicated event coordinator.

Because we run these venues, we can move quickly on dates, menus and layout. We also source buyouts across the city. Downtown and the Gaslamp offer the most options near the hotels and convention center, Little Italy suits dining-led evenings, and La Jolla brings coastal settings for client events.

Custom Menus and What's Included

A buyout is your chance to build the menu around your group instead of choosing from the regular card. We work with the kitchen on passed appetizers, family-style courses, buffets, stations or a plated dinner, plus a bar plan that fits your budget, whether that's a full open bar, a hosted tab or a drink limit.

Dietary requirements are collected from your guest list ahead of time and built into the catering brief, so guests with restrictions get the same quality as everyone else. We can add printed menus with your logo, signature cocktails named for your company, and AV for a slideshow or remarks.

Every buyout we plan includes consultation, venue and vendor sourcing, rate negotiation, timeline and budget, vendor contract review, event-day coordination and post-event follow-up, with one dedicated point of contact the whole way. Planning a holiday celebration? See our corporate holiday party page, where buyouts are one of the most requested formats.

A Buyout Client That Comes Back Every Year

One of our clients hosts an annual full-space buyout at Greystone every October for 60–80 guests. They alternate formats: one year a buffet with passed appetizers, the next a seated dinner. The client prefers a hands-off approach. We send a detailed proposal for approval, then handle menu, decor, vendor coordination and on-site management. That consistency has made us their go-to planner year after year.

Greystone's layout also worked for an SDTA retirement party of 60 guests: a buffet with an open bar, and a lounge flowing into the dining area that kept people mingling.

Restaurant Buyout FAQs

How much does a restaurant buyout cost in San Diego?

Most buyouts are priced as a food and beverage minimum, which changes with the venue, date, day of week and hours. A peak-season weekend asks more than a midweek date in the slow season. Your proposal shows the real minimum and all event costs for each option. Our planning is free because the venue pays us.

How far ahead should we book a buyout?

For most corporate dinners we suggest four to eight weeks. Buyouts take a venue off the public calendar, so popular dates, especially weekends and the November–December holiday season, go earlier. If you have a short timeline, ask anyway. We'll tell you honestly what's available.

What's the smallest group that makes sense for a buyout?

There's no fixed rule. It comes down to whether your spend can reach the venue's minimum. Our private dining rooms guide compares rooms and buyouts in more depth. A small group with a generous budget can take a full restaurant. A mid-size group may get better value from a partial buyout or private room. We'll show you the trade-offs before you choose.

Is there a deposit?

Our planning service has no deposit and no fee. Restaurants usually require a deposit to hold a buyout date and secure the minimum. We tell you the amount, the deadline and the cancellation terms in writing, up front, before anything is committed, and we can work with your accounts payable process.

Can we bring our own entertainment, decor or AV?

Usually, yes, and a buyout gives you the most freedom to do it. Venue rules vary, so we confirm what's allowed and what's priced separately before you sign. We can also source DJs, live music, photographers, florals, signage and AV through our own vendor relationships.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Yes. We collect dietary needs from your guest list and build them into the catering brief, covering gluten-free, vegan, kosher, halal, nut-free and other requirements. With a custom buyout menu, it's easy to make sure every guest gets a full, thoughtful meal rather than an afterthought plate.

Can we book Greystone or Kaluu directly?

Both venues are bookable only through us, and there's still no planning fee. Greystone buyouts host up to 250 guests and Kaluu buyouts seat up to 120. Tell us your date and headcount and we'll confirm availability in your proposal.
